December 4, 2003
6:30

The Tyler Museum of Art will present a lecture by Scott Barker on Thursday, December 4th at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Museum’s 2003 Fall Lecture Series. The lecture is entitled Travelers of the Mind: The Rise of the Fort Worth Circle (1940-1955) and is in conjunction with the exhibition Neighbors: Texas Artists in New Mexico on display at TMA through January 18, 2004.

Scott Barker grew up in Midland and settled in Tarrant County in 1975 after serving six years in the Navy. His wife is a Fort Worth native and the pair began collecting art as soon as they married, quickly settling on Early Fort Worth art as their focus. In 2001, Barker worked with the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation in curating the library’s centennial art exhibition First Light: Local Art and the Fort Worth Public Library (1901-1961). He was also involved in planning for The French Connection: Murray P. Bewley and James R. Blake, organized by the Old Jail Art Center in 2001, and wrote one of the catalogue essays.

The lecture and gallery talk is free and open to the public. There will be a reception following the presentation. Please call 903-595-1001 for reservations. Seating is limited.
