Hendrix, Maines, Carroll Grab Spotlight For TMA’s Texas Songwriter Series March 20

TYLER, TX—A musical homecoming is on the bill March 20, as Grammy Award winners Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines hit the stage along with Tyler native Adam Carroll as special guest for the next concert in the Tyler Museum of Art’s Texas Songwriter Series.

Tickets are still available for the concert, tuning up at 7 p.m. Friday, March 20 in Tyler Junior College’s Jean Browne Theatre. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. All ticket holders are invited for a post-show reception, with dessert and coffee provided by Starbucks, immediately following the performance at the TMA, 1300 S. Mahon Ave. Seats are $20 for Museum members and $25 for non-members in advance; admission is $30 at the door. Seating is limited, so patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets early by calling (903) 595-1001.

THE ARTISTS

A fixture on the Americana scene for more than a decade, Terri Hendrix has built a career as one of the most successful independent acts in modern music since self-releasing her debut album “Two Dollar Shoes” in 1996. Since establishing her own label, Wilory Records (named in tribute to the farm of her mentor, Marion Williamson, where she honed her instrumental and songwriting skills), Hendrix has released nine critically acclaimed new albums (in addition to re-releasing her debut disc) including her latest, the Lloyd Maines-produced “The Spiritual Kind.” Hendrix co-produced five previous album efforts with Maines, and she received a 2003 Grammy Award in the best country instrumental category for co-writing “Li’l Jack Slade,” featured on the Dixie Chicks’ multi-platinum album “Home.”

Lubbock-born Lloyd Maines first gained notoriety as a member of The Maines Brothers Band in the late 1970s, on the way to cementing his reputation as a multi-instrumentalist and producer collaborating with a who’s who of modern country and alt-country talents. (Joe Ely, Butch Hancock, Terry Allen, Guy Clark and Jimmie Dale Gilmore are just a few of the headliners who have benefited from Maines’ prowess on pedal steel, dobro, electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin and banjo, among other instruments.) He began his producing career helming Terry Allen’s seminal 1979 album, “LUBBOCK (on everything),” eventually winning a 2003 Grammy Award for best country album as producer of the Dixie Chicks’ “Home”—featuring his daughter, Natalie Maines, on lead vocals.

Adam Carroll, son of Claudia and Otis Carroll of Tyler, studied guitar at TJC in the mid-1990s before striking out for the Americana music scene in the Austin area. Throughout his years in the Hill Country, Carroll has amassed a substantial cult following and critical raves for his engaging live performances and quirky, introspective songwriting. His first four albums, beginning with 2000's “South of Town,” were produced by Maines; his latest, self-produced effort “Old Town Rock N Roll” (with Scott Nolan and Mark Jungers) recently received a best song nomination at the 1st Annual Lone Star Music Awards for “Oklahoma Gypsy Shuffler,” Carroll’s homage to legendary singer-songwriter Leon Russell.

Texas Songwriter Series sponsors are RBC Wealth Management, Claudia and Otis Carroll, Sandy and Joe Shepard, and Tyler Junior College, with special thanks to Ron Gleason and Starbucks.
