Tyler Museum of Art to Host Artist Talk & Tour Tyler, TXTyler Museum of Art announces two special events scheduled this week in conjunction with the current exhibition: Gisela-Heidi and Jürgen Strunck: Sculptures & Prints. The public is invited to attend both the monthly art educator-led tour, and a special reception for the artists. The hour-long monthly First Friday Art Tour is set for 11 a.m. May 5 and will feature informative details on Gisela-Heidi Strunck’s sculptures, which have been described as “forms with astonishing tactile surfaces.” The partially-blind sculptor combines a variety of woods, metals and fibers into her three-dimensional creations. The tour is free for TMA members plus one guest, and $3 for non-members, with reservations requested. In addition, both featured artists will speak at a special reception in their honor set for Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tyler Museum of Art. The couple, whose works are on exhibit at the Museum through May 14, will share with the audience their ideas about art in contemporary society. The Gallery Talk and Reception are free and open to the public; reservations can be made for both events by calling 903-595-1001. “Gisela-Heidi’s studies in India are clearly evident within the arrangements of many of the formal elements of her works. It will be interesting to hear her expound on her theories and the influences that have impacted her recent works,” said Bob Thompson, Tyler Museum of Art director of education. “The complexity of Jürgen’s innovative printmaking technique is to be admired and will be interesting to hear him discuss,” Thompson added. The German-born couple now resides in Dallas. In addition to the Strunck exhibition, the TMA is also exhibiting Rosalie Speed: Rediscovered Texas Treasure through May 21. The Museum’s major exhibition for the year, Illuminating the Word: The Saint John’s Bible, opens June 9. Museum officials urged churches and other organizations desiring group tours to see the nationally-acclaimed Bible exhibition call the TMA as soon as possible for scheduling. |
