Tyler Museum of Art Receives Funding from the Heath Foundation for Summer Art Camps Beginning July 27, the Boys and Girls Club of Tyler will be attending a week long art camp at the Tyler Museum of Art, thanks to the generosity of the Ed and Mary Heath Foundation. The Foundation provided funding to give each of these children scholarships to attend the camp, as well as funding to underwrite the cost of an art teacher, supplies, and transportation to and from the Museum. "During the art camp the Boys and Girls Club will learn about the children's book author and illustrator, Peter Sís, whose work is currently being displayed at the Museum. The children will spend the first part of the camp reading Sís' stories and viewing his original illustrations in the gallery. Afterwards, they will make a book of their very own. It will be an exciting week for them, especially since for some of the children, it will be their first trip to an art museum," said Danielle Stephens, Assistant Head of Education at the TMA. In addition to funding the art camp for the Boys and Girls Club of Tyler, the Heath Foundation also provided five scholarships for children that attended the annual TMA Summer Art Camps held during the first three weeks of July. "The Museum's art camps have been a popular summer event in Tyler for many years. Children of all ages, ranging from five to twelve years old enjoy the exhibitions and create their own works of art under the direction of art teachers and Museum staff. We have been fortunate to have the Heath Foundation participate in making the camps available to students over the past several years through their scholarship donations," added Ms. Stephens. The Tyler Museum of Art is located at 1300 S. Mahon Ave., near the Tyler Junior College Campus. Regular hours are Tuesday - Friday, 10 - 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 - 5 p.m. The Museum Café is open Tuesday - Friday from 11:30 - 1:30. Call 903-595-1001 for more information. |
