Tyler Museum of Art Hosts Family Day: Free Family Fun Slated for Saturday, October 24 TYLER, TX (October 21, 2009)—The Tyler Museum of Art invites the public to enjoy Family Day, presented free of charge at the Museum on Saturday, October 24 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Children will enjoy unique art projects and fun activities designed to creatively reflect the current exhibitions 4 Salvaged Boxes: Sustainable Creative Design and Light Footprints: New Museum Site Photography by Robert Langham. This exciting event will include a self-guided tour of the exhibition, in addition to art activities, family gallery guides and light refreshments. Children and the young at heart will both enjoy the experience of creating their own art by using the same approaches as artists whose works are currently displayed at the TMA. 4 Salvaged Boxes is an exhibit created by wHY Architecture and presents bold geometric shapes filled with a treasure trove of new ideas about building design by using intriguing materials taken from the construction site of the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Light Footprints leads visitors through an outdoor adventure that features native plants found on the future site of the TMA. Together, the two exhibits demonstrate the “how” and “why” of “green” building. The Tyler Museum of Art, accredited by the American Association of Museums, is located at 1300 S. Mahon Ave., adjacent to the Tyler Junior College campus off East Fifth Street. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. (The Museum is closed Mondays and major holidays.) Lunch is available in the Museum Café from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and the TMA Gift Shop is open during museum hours.
