Want a rewarding experience? Become a TMA Docent! Because of the increased popularity of the Museum’s exhibitions and programs, docents are needed. Join the TMA’s exceptional group of docents and experience the many benefits of the Docent Program. For more information and to request an application, please call the Education Department at 903-595-1001, ext. 206 or write to educate@tylermuseum.org. What does a Tyler Museum of Art Docent do? A Tyler Museum of Art docent educates visitors on the TMA exhibitions. There are several different options for serving. A docent can select once-a week frame for helping with the Tyler Independent School District’s second and fifth grade classes, or can choose to help only with special touring groups, from preschool-age children to adults. Docents also have the opportunity to help out at TMA Family Days. These exciting events occur at least four times a year and include Museum tours, hand-on activities, and artist demonstrations. Docents are fully trained by guest speakers and staff on the upcoming exhibitions, the history of art, and touring strategies. Training consists of eight classes a year, and two lectures that are given by guest speakers. The docent program offers a unique opportunity for individuals to learn about and enjoy art in a friendly and stimulating environment. It is a rewarding experience to share the Museum’s art with others and to contribute to the education of our school children and community. For more information about becoming a TMA docent, please call the Education Department at 903-595-1001 ext. 206, or write to educate@tylermuseum.org. |
