4th Annual High School Art Exhibition March 8March 30, 2008 The work has been evaluated, the results are in, and 45 young artists from the East Texas area are about to begin their exhibition careers. The Tyler Museum of Art 4th Annual High School Art Exhibition opens to the public Saturday, March 8, and continues through March 30 in the TMA's Bell Gallery. The public is invited to join the participating artists and their families for the opening reception and awards ceremony from 2:004:00 p.m. March 8 at the Museum. Admission to the exhibition and reception are free. For reservations, call 903-595-1001. Senior-level students from seven area high schools had works selected by their art instructors for the exhibition, which was judged by a panel of jurors appointed by the TMA curatorial staff from college art departments in the region. Jurors included James Pace, professor of art at the University of Texas at Tyler; Chris Stewart, chairman of the visual arts department at Tyler Junior College; and Curtis Watson, professor of art at Texas College. The five most outstanding exhibition entries as determined by the jurors were selected to receive Merit of Honor Awards, with recipients to be named at the March 8 awards ceremony. Each student whose work was selected for the exhibition will receive a certificate of participation and a one-year student membership to the Tyler Museum of Art. "Determining the award recipients this year was a particularly involved and difficult task for our jurors," said Kentaro Tomio, TMA curator and organizer of the High School Art Exhibition. "We continue to be astonished at the quality of the entries we receive each year, with the students submitting their work for the exhibition raising the bar even higher each time around. Every young artist who entered his or her work is to be commended."
