Pillsbury and Peters Fine Art of Dallas to Present Joint Exhibition of Work by Texas Artists James Blake and Scott and Stuart Gentling

Recent work by these renowned artists will be placed on display December 7, 2001, through January 5, 2002. The artists will be honored with an opening reception on Friday, December 7, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Their photo-realistic work depicts portraits and still lifes, as well as urban and rural landscapes.

James Blake paints and draws vignettes that capture the essence of a place. He portrays his favorite parks and squares in Paris as lovingly as he transcribes the aging surface of the trees in his backyard in Fort Worth. The result is a timeless expression of precision and refinement, filtering his own experience through the internationalist lens of the Fort Worth School that flourished in the 1940s and 1950s.

James Blake received his B.F.A. from the Los Angeles Art Center School in 1960 and has exhibited throughout the state of Texas since that time, represented by Carlin Galleries in Fort Worth for over 25 years. This is the artist's first solo exhibition at Pillsbury and Peters Fine Art.

Scott and Stuart Gentling are twins whose art combines the romantic realism of Andrew Wyeth with the scientific rigor of John James Audubon. Their fame is based as much on their magnum opus, Of Birds and Texas, as on their exacting and labor intensive explorations of ancient Aztec sites, historical costumes, and the exoticism of landscape. The pair were recently honored with the commission to paint the official portrait of Texas Governor, Rick Perry.

The Gentlings were born in Rochester, Minnesota but have resided in Fort Worth since the age of five. Both attended Tulane University and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where they studied under Walter Stuempfig and watercolorist John McCoy. Though unique in their approaches to painting, the brothers have been creative partners throughout their careers, and have lectured together at the Fort Worth Art Museum, the Amon Carter Museum, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Kimbell Art Museum.

Pillsbury and Peters Fine Art is located at 2913 Fairmount at the corner of Cedar Springs. The Gallery is open Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and by appointment.
